Sue Rau, LICSW

Sue is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and co-founded Virta Therapy Collective after 25+ years working in the social service and mental health field. She has experience working as a Clinical Supervisor at an outpatient clinic, MSW Intern Director, and a Manager at a non-profit clinic. She received both her Bachelors of Social Work and Masters of Social Work from the College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas.

Sue supports healing through a collaborative process which begins with building a trusting therapeutic relationship. She uses direct communication, humor and humility to connect with individuals through non-judgment and authenticity. She assists individuals in understanding how past experiences have shaped current relationships and responses to our environments. Sue supports clients around concerns related to women’s mental health, pregnancy/postpartum support, transition into parenthood, young adult life transitions, and challenges unique to the LGBTQ+ community. Sue is passionate about providing a safe space for those who are dealing with concerns related to anxiety, trauma, depression, and difficult life transitions.

Sue utilizes a feminist, relational and strength-based approach that integrates elements of Psychodynamic Therapy, Interpersonal Process Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) modalities. Sue has advanced training in Perinatal Mental Health.

In addition to her clinical practice, she has enjoyed supervising clinical trainees and newly licensed professionals for the past 15+ years. Sue values the opportunity to help nurture and develop clinical talent and to share new perspectives.
